People can suffer from delusions
in their daily life too, especially due to the kind of lifestyle
people lead these days. However, a diagnose for the same is in order if
the delusion stays on for over a month. Delusions can be either
bizarre or non-bizarre in natural, and can be completely untrue or just
partially true and exaggerated. People with mild delusion disorder can
continue to live their life normally as long as the subject of
delusion is not discussed or brought upon, in which case, the symptoms
of delusion disorder can be picked upon socially and may lead to
stigmatization.
Person with delusional disorder supposedly would be fully checked by
the doctor, starting from taking blood samples to taking various other
physical exams to assess the physical and mental health. Once the
delusional disorder is confirmed, the doctor then directs the patient
to psychiatrist or a psychologist depending upon the case and medical
history. The delusional disorder can be diagnosed in three primary ways
-
Psychotherapy
This involves talking to the psychiatrist or a psychologist in a
counselling session, which has to start slow for a firm bonding and
therapeutic relationship to be built. Once a strong relationship has
been established, the doctor then go on to approach the problem and the
patient in a more precise yet indirect manner, while leaving gaps for
the delusions to slowly but surely fade away from life. It is a time
taking process, but in most cases helps the patient get back to life
much stronger.
Medications
Medications are generally avoided if the counselling is showing
positive signs, and hospitalization should be avoided at all costs as
it would usually aggravate the belief in patient's mind about the
delusions. However, anti-psychotic medications are suggested and
prescribed in certain cases when the delusions disorder continues to
increase in severity.
Self-Help
Acceptance that there is a problem is the key to finding a solution to
mental disorder. Sharing experiences with other patients having
delusion disorder, talking to other members in self-help community
having delusion or mental disorder, and learning through various
mediums how to cope with the problem can be helpful, and would also add
confidence.
Here are the few ways one can get rid of delusions disorder. It would
take time to get completely rid of this mental disorder, but with time
and effort, it surely would fade away to never return for good. Support
from family and friend during this time is highly essential to achieve
success for the patient.
